Tool #11- Assignment

The three things that I think the students should know and understand are how to navigate safely in the internet or visit sites approved by parents or teachers, never share any personal information with anyone, and let a teacher or parent know if they are approached by anyone that they don't know or if they don't feel safe. Our librarian used a great video to teach our kinder classes about digitalcitizenship that I think I would use it too becauset is so easy and very student friendly. http://www.brainpop.com/technology/digitalcitizenship/

Tool #11- Reflection

1. I had a lot of favorite tools! I know I am going to use the iPod apps now that we are going to get iPods in our classrooms for the students. I am going to us the Wordle, Animoto, Story Telling and make movies for the students and the parents....I can't wait to work with all of these with my students.
2. I think that the learning in my classroom is going to be Phenomenal with all the different technology available and the students are only so willing to learn so it shouldn't be problem. My transformation is that I come to realize that the students are so eager to learn all the technology and that it is so much easier for them than for us, the adults because that was my experience this past year when they worked on the laptops.
3. Well...the unexpected outcome of the program was the actual time it took me to go through it but the information and the skills that I have learned are so valueable that once I did finish each tool it was such a feeling of accomplishment and the fact that I know I will use the knowledge with my student. I'm so excited just to think of the different documents, movies, projects that we are going to be working on with all these tools and that I can't wait to use them all.

Tool # 10

1. and 2. It is amazing the number of apps available for students to learn from in all subject areas. The apps and all the technology is so easy for them to learn and use. It seems easier since they are so use to playing games and they really enjoy it. This summer I had the experience of a student using her DSI XL to make a movie of her family! Here I was trying to make my movie for tool 7 and there she was making a movie and taking pictures with her game! Unbelievable!!!!
3. I like all the different apps that can be use to renforce and teach all types of content. I can see how the student can really learn so much from the different apps as well as enjoy learning the material not to mention the fact that they will be learning it in the waive of the future in this global community. We have to keep up.

Tool #9

1. I could see how students could use the Jing to make a movie or a social studies video or report using the mapping for a geography lesson. They can also take pictures, record videos and share them instantly to anyone they like. This tool for making reports looks like a great way to enhance learning.
2. Skype is amazing! It seems that you see many people on TV use it on programs as they talk to people through their computers and I had the opportunity to work with a colleague that communicates with her children in Mexico that way. I think that we can use it in our classroom to expand our walls to the world and see other cultures. I could see how the classroom could share reports with other classroom in the district or in the country. The classrooms could become "pen pals" and talk to eachother on a regular basis to share experiences, field trips, reports, ideas, etc...

Tool #8

Octopus vs. Sea LionĂ¢€”First Ever Videohttp://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/news/animals-news/crittercam-sealion-vs-octopus-vin.html
Piglet Squid, Other Bizarre Species Foundhttp://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/news/animals-news/marine-census-graphics-vin.html
I have found that teaching and showing the videos are wonderful! The students really liked them and the animals or what they are watching becomes real to them and they seem to be able to understand the concept of what they animals do and how they really live in nature. It has been a wonderful tool for me during this summer. I have used the videos to bring the real world into the classroom. I really plan to use more in the future in enhance my teaching in the classroom.

Tool #7

I think that this is a great tool for the students to use to express themselves in a different medium. I think that the students would love to take pictures of themselves in centers, at field trips and doing so many other different things. They can write or dramatize stories that they have read or they write. The possibilities are endless.
I think, it was a little hard or labor intensive for me since I had not ever downloaded my pictures from my camera before and therefore I had a lot of pictures to go through (5 years to preview) just to get the making of the movie, but once I did that, it was easier. I did have to ask for help from my colleague to show me a few somethings but it was not daunting. Now that I know how to do it, of course it does not seem as hard.

Tool #6

I really liked the video that explains what a WIKI is and how to use it. It seems really easy to use, to organize, to share, to store or save work or ideas for a group of people for a common goal. I like the idea of the students working on WIKIs to save their work as part of writer’s workshop where they can come back and look at it edit and take it to publication. All of this can take place from anywhere in the classroom, the district or the country or even the world.
